Boreen walks are held on the country lanes and roads which connect the seashore to the bog. The word 'boreen' is a corruption of the gaelic irish word 'bótharín' which means small road and that is exactly what they are. Used in the past as trackways for horses or donkey and cart they still retain the old-world, pre-automobile feel.
Bound by dry stone walls on either side the roadside flora and fauna is something to behold. A patchwork of fields stretch before the eye on either side. These to are bordered by Connemara's famous stone walls which centuries old are magic even in the depths of winter. Very much a natural manmade feature they were built of local stone found within yards of each wall.
Wild flowers, cow moos, lichen shades and twittering birds..
